More than 20 fire companies from Genesee, Wyoming, Orleans and Monroe counties responded to a massive fire at an onion processing and storage facility in Elba, NY on Thanksgiving Day 2016. The fire started in an electrical short in engine block heater for a tractor stored inside the structure, which is owned by the largest onion producing farm in the county, Torrey Farms. The building and all of the equipment, valued at more than $3 million, was a total loss. Many of the more than 100 volunteer firefighters who responded were on scene from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. that night.
